Square Rings at NewDealSeals

When it comes to sealing technology, Square Rings take the spotlight as a versatile and specialized solution. These unique sealing components are meticulously crafted to meet the demands of specific applications that require a square cross-section. On this page, we’ll delve into the world of Square Rings, illuminating their design, advantages, and diverse range of applications.

What are Square Rings?

Square Rings, also known as Kantseals®, are sealing gaskets featuring a square or rectangular cross-section, a departure from the traditional circular shape of regular O-rings. This distinctive geometry empowers Square Rings to deliver effective sealing solutions in scenarios where a square or rectangular groove is in play, ensuring a snug fit and preventing leaks.

Advantages of Square Rings

  1. High extrusion resistance.
  2. Dimensionally stable under pressure.
  3. Stable sealing solution with resistance to rolling during assembly
  4. Precise fit
  5. Reduced twist and spiral failure
  6. Versatility

How Square Rings work

A square ring is an elastic component strategically placed between two parts, serving as a seal to bridge the gap between them. During installation, the ring is gently compressed, ensuring an initial seal even at low pressures. However, the real magic happens when the square O-ring is subjected to pressure.

Handling High Pressure of Square Rings

When subjected to pressure, a Square Ring exhibits a unique behavior known as “flowing” within the groove towards the clearance gap. This flow dynamically eliminates any remaining gap, guaranteeing a secure and impeccable seal, even when exposed to elevated pressure conditions. Thanks to their square shape, these rings possess an inherent ability to withstand higher pressure levels, obviating the need for additional Back-Up rings, which are typically employed alongside traditional O-rings.

Square Rings serve as an excellent alternative to O-rings in axial static applications. They boast exceptional sealing capacity and shape stability, rendering them highly resistant to extrusion, high pressures, and vibrations. It’s important to note that O-rings, with their circular cross-section, generally offer a more definitive seal due to their ability to concentrate unit loading.

Common materials employed for Square Rings include:

  1. Nitrile
  2. EPDM
  3. FKM (Viton)

Choose Square Rings for robust and dependable sealing solutions in demanding applications.
